Lomond Christmas Putting the LOCAL back into Christmas
Senior pupils are set to benefit from a new Skills Academy programme designed to help them develop the confidence, knowledge and practical skills needed to take their next steps into employment.
Educational Services launched the exciting new initiative, bringing together pupils, education staff, Council partners and invited guests to celebrate the start of the programme.
The programme will provide senior pupils preparing to leave school next summer with hands-on opportunities to build employability skills, gain valuable workplace experience and explore a range of future career pathways.
Participants will engage with three key service areas across the Council: Building Services and Trades, Hospitality and Catering, and Early Years Centres. Through practical, career-focused activities, pupils will gain insight into different working environments while developing skills that will support them in future education, training and employment opportunities.
Councillor Michelle McGinty, Convener of Educational Services, said: “The Skills Academy is a fantastic opportunity for our young people to build their confidence, develop valuable employability skills and gain a real insight into different career pathways within the Council.
“We are committed to ensuring our young people are equipped with the skills and experience they need to succeed, and this programme provides an excellent platform to support them as they prepare for life after school.
“We are delighted to be launching the Skills Academy and look forward to supporting our pupils throughout their journey.”
Councillor John Millar, Vice Convener of Educational Services, said: “Investing in our young people is one of the most important things we can do as a Council. The Skills Academy reflects our commitment to helping pupils develop the confidence, skills and experience employers are looking for, while opening doors to exciting opportunities within their local community.
“The transition from school into employment or further learning can be a significant step, and it is important that our young people feel prepared and supported. The Skills Academy will give participants the chance to learn new skills, make informed decisions about their future and gain experiences that will benefit them for years to come.”
The initiative forms part of the Council’s ongoing commitment to improving opportunities for young people and helping them develop the skills required to thrive in the world of work.
