On 11 September, the Scotland Office announced that Renfrew Bridge has welcomed over one million crossings, marking a major moment for local connectivity. Since recording started on June 21, more than 800,000 cars have crossed the bridge, along with over 22,000 cyclists and 35,000 walkers and runners and officially totalled over 1,000,000 in less than four months.
Commenting on this milestone, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Scotland, Kirsty McNeill MP said the number of crossings “is clear proof that this magnificent bridge across Glasgow’s beloved Clyde has quickly become a cherished piece of infrastructure for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists. It is also a powerful reminder of how vital it is to bring people and places together.”
Clydebank Councillor William Rooney said: “The number of crossings clearly shows how vital this bridge is for communities on both sides of the Clyde. For Clydebank, it enables greater access to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, West College Scotland, University of the West of Scotland and unlocks job opportunities that weren’t available before the bridge opened.”
“It also opens up new adventures along the River Clyde Walk Trail, offering braw views of Clydebank’s waterfront and the iconic Titan Crane.”
