Residents are being offered the opportunity to join in celebrations to mark the seventh session of the Scottish Parliament.
A ceremonial opening event will take place to mark the occasion on Saturday June 27th.
The return of a Parliament and legislature to Scotland was officially marked by Her Majesty, the late Queen Elizabeth II, on July 1st, 1999.
Now seven sessions later, a formal event featuring a celebration of culture from across Scotland, will mark the milestone.
MSP Jackie Baillie, who has represented Dumbarton at Holyrood for the entirety of the Scottish Parliament existence, is now on the hunt for a local hero to join her at the prestigious ceremony.
The event will be marked by a celebration set to take place in Holyrood’s Debating Chamber, which features musical performances.
It will be followed by a lunch reception for MSPs and their guests.
The event will also mark the efforts of local heroes and celebrate their contributions to communities throughout Scotland.
Jackie is offering the chance for residents to nominate a local hero to attend the prestigious event, in recognition of their efforts for the community.
The Scottish Labour MSP, said: “I have had the honour of representing the people of Dumbarton, the Vale, Helensburgh and Lomond in the Scottish Parliament since 1999.
“I will continue to work hard to improve the lives of residents in the area.
“I am aware of the good work being undertaken daily, by unsung heroes in our communities and I know that there will be many others out there who have also worked tirelessly to improve lives.
“I would like to hear from residents who wish to nominate unsung heroes from their communities to attend this prestigious celebration.”
To nominate, please email Jackie.baillie.msp@parliament.scot, providing information on your local hero, their contribution to our community and their contact details, or send a nomination to the constituency office, 11 Castle Street, Dumbarton, G82 1QS and mark the envelope ‘Local Hero’.
The deadline for nominations is Friday June 12, 2026.
