Dumbarton Football Club is delighted to announce Frank McKeown as the club’s new Manager.

Frank, 39, impressed owner Mario Lapointe with a clear and ambitious vision for the club’s future. A strong, driven leader who communicates with honesty and clarity, Frank stood out for his commitment to ensuring that nothing is done by half measures.

McKeown is joined in forming a new look management team by assistants Mark Docherty and Stephen Simmons.

As a player, Frank is best known for his time at Stranraer, where he made almost 200 appearances and captained the side, before moving into coaching seven years ago.

Speaking for the first time as Dumbarton manager, McKeown said: “Before coming to this club, I always looked at Dumbarton with a bit of envy. From the outside you could see it’s a great club; the following, the stadium and the location.

“I wasn’t a Dumbarton fan then – but during my time here that has changed. I’ve built real relationships with the fans, the players and the staff, and with everyone’s backing I’m proud to become the 46th manager of the club.

“I want to recognise and thank the people who saved Dumbarton FC and those who have spent the last few months changing the mindset here. The effort has been incredible. Volunteers, staff and players, everyone has rolled up their sleeves and got to work

“Right now is a good time to be a Dumbarton fan. We’ve got a proud history behind us, but in many ways we are rebuilding every department from the ground up – the football department included. It’s fresh, young, exciting and full of potential.

“This club has always pushed people to the front and said, ‘go on show us what you’ve got.’ That won’t change.

“From my conversations with Mario, I can see clearly where we’re heading. He has grit, determination and resilience, and I will make sure our players and staff match that every day.

“After 20 years playing and seven years coaching in Scottish football, I’ve grown to develop a strong mindset, a belief in what works and a large network of contacts to build a competitive team.

“Over the last few days I’ve set a number of fresh demands for Mario, Cameron, the Club Board – and for the players, staff and our kitman, Drew.

“I like things done in a certain way. I want to know every detail and make sure it’s right. I want to thank them for the support they’ve shown me and the club during a challenging week. That support will be crucial in the months and years ahead as we push this club forward together.”

Club owner Mario Lapointe said: “Frank showed the leadership, the spirit, the character and knowledge we need at this vital time. He was an aggressive, commanding and natural leader as a player. He brings real hunger, determination and passion. The club is confident he is the right man to lead us forward.”
