Hot weather brings crowds to Loch Lomond Highland Games

Thousands of visitors descended on Balloch at the weekend for the return of the Loch Lomond Highland Games.

The event came back with the sun shining this Saturday, and was deemed a huge success.

More than 7’000 thousand people including residents and visitors from as far afield as Germany and America attended the event in Moss O’ Balloch Park where they enjoyed displays from heavyweights as well as Highland dancing, piping  and the traditional tossing the caber and tug-of-war competitions.

A group of German friends took part in a traditional Tug of War. While in the woman’s tug of war, ‘Breaststroke and Bleethers’ were champions for Loch Lomond Rescue Boat and donated their £200 winnings to the charity.

West Dunbartonshire Provost Douglas McAllister, said: “It’s been absolutely fantastic to be back at the Highland Games, it’s been a really missed event during COVID. We’re delighted to have hosted again this year in partnership with the Loch Lomond Highland Games Committee and we hope to see more people back again next year”.

Chieftain of the Loch Lomond Highland Games, Karen Conaghan said: “We’re all delighted to be back her for the Loch Lomond Highland Games, to see everyone turning out from near and far, we’ve had visitors from all over the world enjoy our Scottish culture and Heritage. It’s been a fantastic day and everyone has enjoyed the sunshine and we hope to see them back next year enjoying our Scottish Hospitality.”
